Hi All

I have a small 1ft x9" x9" tank do you think a siamese fighter would do well in here.

i read in some places that they prefer small tanks alone but do you think that this is cruel?

also if i did do this could i just leave the tank by it self or would i need a filter, light, heater etc.

i could put him in my main bigger tank but i doubt my puffer would be pleased by this?

If you want a betta, they need to be in a tank large enough for a heater and a filter. I wouldnt keep one in less than 2.5 gal and yes your puffer would kill him.

I put together a 2 gallon tank for a betta that is about that size. I'd suggest a Whisper Internal 3i filter and Hydor 25 watt heater - they fit fine and are working well in the small tank.

It needs to be filtered and heated. 12"x9"x9" works out to be about 4 gallons, should be fine for a betta, this would not be cruel. Putting him in your main tank would be cruel.

well, I kept my betta in an unheated, unfiltered, (but lighted!) 1/2 gallon bowl for 6 months with some java moss in there and he was none the worse for wear. now he's in my super good, super big(for a betta) and super heated 10g community tank, and he's still super healthy. my point: bettas are hardy, adaptable fish. let's hope they never get loose in florida! :D of course, my betta is alaskan-bred, so he's used to the cold. (believe me, I once forgot to close my window once last winter, and it got down to 45 degrees F in there and he didn't even notice it!! :thud: ) and the water in my house comes from glacial-melt streams, and it has so much oxygen that when it's fresh out of the faucet, it's totally opaque with air bubbles!
