I am new to cichlids, only one month. I had one convict, and got another for a pair (Bonnie & Clyde). I know, very original. They fell in love immediately, I decided to transfer them to their own tank and didn't notice, but Bonnie jumped out of the net and I didn't notice till way later, I found her hard little body on the floor (as I wipe my sad tears away). So, being the romantic that I am, out I went in search of Clyde's new love. I was shocked when they didn't get along. I left them together about a week and nothing changed. I decided to seperate them today and when I got the female out of the tank, I noticed her tail is all gnawed up. I have isolated her from other cichlids, she is in a 10 gallon tank with 2 long fin blue danios (should be 3 for a school, but one was eaten) and one dwarf red groumie. I put the male convict back with 2 of the original cichlids it came with and assorted others. They both seem fine with their new living arrangements, but I will keep an eye on both of them, a lot better than I kept an eye on the female convict. Now that I have beat all the way around the bush, my question is, what do I do to treat her injuries? I have no medicine and don't know what to get or where to get it (pet store or veterinarian). I thank you in advance and my yet unamed female convict thanks you.
