I can't seem to find any information on the masked catfish. My local acquarium seems clear that "masked catfish" is an appropriate name, that they look a lot like a catfish whose name begins with Swhwartz, and that they are a "corborus" (sic). I've searched aquariacentral's species profiles and can't locate a fish by that name. In fact I can't find Schwartz or corborus either. Can anyone help? Is there another name for this fish? Anyone know it's scientific name?

could corborus really be a coryadora? Just a thought.

I'm pretty new at this, so I don't have a way to respond with any certanty. Is a coryadora a catfish?

So I just looked back at the Corydoras in the species profiles and the one that would fit best is the Panda Corydoras, but the fish I have does not have the spot on the tail described for the Panda.

Can you post a pic? My panda cories are tan, black mask, black dorsal fin and a band of black right where their tail starts. Is this the black tail spot you mentioned? I wonder if it is a panda, just one without the last spot! Cories are awesome, I love mine. They prefer to be in groups of the same species. How big is yours? Pandas are one of the cories that stay pretty small, but will get about an inch and a half in length. What size tank and what tankmates?

I think I may have found the masked catfish at http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSummary.php?id=12185 though my fish do not show the black stripe in the caudal area. Otherwise they look identical to the fish shown in the pictures available at that URL.
I discovered the site http://www.webcityof.com/mifftitl.htm which provides a great deal of information about fish. Hopefully it will be of use to you.

Corydoras catfish are very popular and there are scads of species from which to choose. Check out this list: http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/genus.php?genus_id=1
Among the more commonly offered species are Corydoras aeneus, C. "julii" (almost always C. trilineatus), C. melini, C. paleatus, C. panda, C. schwartzi, and C. sterbai. A couple dozen other species make their way into the trade occassionally. They're pretty much all hardy fish, but since they come from a wide range of South American habitats they do have different temperature requirements. Research your species once you figure out what you've got.

I went to the second site you linked to, good stuff, but I wish there were more pics of the fish! I looked in their index, for masked catfish, and tried to cross reference with other sites. I kept finding the same fish, looked like a panda but with an unbroken black line from dorsal to caudal area. Someone with more cory knowledge want to step in here?
>>>Masked Cory See Corydoras atropersonatus
