Alright, went to the LFS (no not petco or petsmart either) and somebody has dropped of an 8 inch pleco. The LFS said they would let me adopt the pleco for $5.00. He is in a tank all of his own and seems happy. He has been there for over 2 weeks now, and nobody wants to adopt this beautiful guy!

My question is: will this 8 inch pleco be alright in my 55 gal. if I was to adopt him? If it is alright, then how would I get this big guy home?

He is so beautiful, I have went up there everyday and watched him, I'm just amazed that they are willing to adopt him out for $5.00 (but I am a loyal customer there) and nobody has adopted him yet!

Well, what do you all think?
Thanks!

8" is a large pleco and if you were to get him in your tank he would not be there all that long. He is on the big side for your tank and they are make a lot of waste. As for how to transport him I use a 5 gal bucket when mine outgrow my tank and I relocate them.

Is it a common pleco? if so it is going to get even bigger and then the 55 probably won't be big enough.
As far as transportation of large fish, use a clean cooler, fill it with water from the tank it is in now, then when you get it home dump some water out, and add some water from his new home.

Actually, I have great news, I have a friend w/ a 300 gal. who is going to adopt him! I kind of thought that he wouldn't fit in my tank, but I know that he will be happy w/ a 300 gal. tank to play in!

Thanks everybody!
