Do you own a SeaClear aquarium? If so how do you like to so far and can you remove the hood to add decorations? Cuz I read one guy saying it was hard to put in some large decorations through the slots, well if you can remove the hood then that's not a problem, so if you know please tell me. I'm thinking of buying one today :)

If they are plexiglass then most of them only have slot type openings. That is for support and elemintes the need for a frame.

I own one and like it a lot, I managed to fit a huge castle in there by orientating it through the slot :) They are very nice looking and the fishies seem happy

Jay you should be fine with Freshwater. I had one with a MH lighting system and one day my AC cut off in the house and my tank cracked. I wasnt to pleased with that. But you should be fine. I was able to fit large pieces of live rock in the tank. I would look at one and the items you want in it. Depending how big the tank is, will depend on the slots. I had a 75 gallon with 2 slots and actually it was a pain to reach the bottom of the tank, now that I recall having it. I prefer having my Oceanic Glass 75 over the plexi glass. Now If I was going with a larger tank, over 150. I would do Plexi. It would be cheaper if you got yourself an All Glass tank.

heh, all you guys avoided my one question :) Can you remove the hood? Or are the slot type openings permanently there even if you do remove the hood? Also if you have a 40 gallon how big L and W are they?

Also they have an option to get either a clear 40 gallon aquarium, or a black 40 gallon aquarium, but when I see the pictures they look exactly the same. What are they talking about here?

See pic, the top is sealed off with two big rectangle opening in the middle and a slot opening in the back. The light hood in the pic is bought separately since mine is a planted tank.

yes you will have trouble fit big decors/driftwoods/rocks through the top.

The tank itself is top quality and crystal clear, but i would have bought a regular open top glass tank (such as one of those amano tank) if i could do it over, especally for a planted setup. It's a pain to clean the seaclear and the water vapor makes the top very foggy and dirty looking.

There are many L W combos, check the seaclear website.

Hello,

I just bought a 75g SeaClear and want to do live plants as well. Can you tell me where you got the light fixture in the picture. My tank is 48"L, so if I buy a lamp set up like that @ 48", will the arms fit securely over the edges (since there is no frame and it's like all one piece?

Twiz--I have exactly that light fixture on my 55. 48" inch 2X65w. It is made by Coralife and you can get them for a good price from Foster and Smith or others online--fits well, I really like the setup. I also have a SeaClear, and I am very happy with it. Yes, the slots are fixed, but I have yet to find anything I want to put in it that I have not been able to fit. My only gripe is that there has been some minor warpage on the top back slots--but, it's the nature of the beast if you want decent lighting.

Thanks Clankeye. You didn't mention and I am curious if the fixture hooks over the edges (more stable) or just sits on top?

Also, was the warpage caused from the heat getting the acrylic too hot?

I do agree on the the slots. I can't imagine what I would need to get in there that wouldn't fit (bearing in mind I am going freshwater...I could see large SW rocks and stuff maybe being an issue).
