I purchased this stuff:
Diamond Blend Carbon 25 (Marineland)
Special formuation (with 25% more carbon) effectively purifies aqurium water, ridding it of dissolved organic waste & odors as it neutralizes toxic ammonia & chloramines.

and I placed it in nylon bag in the sump of my wet/dry filter, right next to the powerhead.

IS the location of the carbon blend in a bad place?

Is this stuff a waste of money, if you do scheduled water changes?

the only time i use that stuff is when trying to remove medications i had put in. and if the water turns isn't clear like when adding driftwood. it works but if you keep up with matainence just use it when you need it so you won't spend a fortune also. try puttin it in your filter so water flows onto it. -john

ciccia - while some will debate the usefulness of charcoal - if you want to use use, placing it in a nylon bag or sticking in your sump like you have it is a perfectly fine way to use it. I use Purigen - and place it in a mesh bag right before the intake of my pump .

you just want to place it where the maximum amount of water will flow. Right next to your powerhead is perfect
