I am having a hard time getting Pearl Gouramis. A LFS just ordered some for me and the baggot squished in shippment and they all died :o(.

There is another LFS that has a group of them with Congo Tetras which I also want. However, they all had ick previously. the tank was treated and I was told they came through fine. This was about a week ago.

Would you buy the fish knowing they once had Ick?

No, I would not.

Most people, especially an LFS, do not do proper ich treatments and the fish probably still have ich.

However, IF you are desparate and IF you have a QT tank and IF you can work out a deal with the LFS -- if any fish die from ich over the next 4 weeks you get a refund on those fish -- then maybe do it ;)

I guess I will have to bite the bullet and order online. I was trying to save some money on shipping. I have a quarantine tank, but its got fish in it that I just got today. So, I really don't have anywhere to put them by themselves.

Well, once a fish has ich. You really can't get "rid" of it due to the parasite's life cycle, I don't think it has ever been proven how long ich will stay dormant in a fish. I would look long and hard at the fish to see if they look healthy or not. The ich oubreak could have been caused my any number of problems related to the fish store itself and not the fish. If you take good care of the fish the chance of another outbreak is slim, and ich is really easy to treat. I would try to get a discount on the fish myself.

My LFS fish-guy routinely refers to Ich as the fish equivalent of herpies.
Once you have it, you're always at risk of another breakout, staying healthy keeps it at bay most of the time, a seemingly well fish can still spread it to others, and 80% or more of aquariums get it even after taking every reasonable precaution. :)

I think it's a matter of 'you get what you paid for.' Even if ich is easily treatable, do you want to risk the rest of your tank to save a few extra bucks? In the long run you’d probably spend more in time, hassle and fish death. I’d wait for a new shipment or buy from an online vender, worth the extra bucks for piece of mind!
