Just wondering if anyone knows of any small, solitary fish species which will eat small guppy fry (ie below about 1.5cm long). My adult guppies don't, and nor do my white clouds or firebelly newts. I am planning on setting up a 10gal or something to move the fry I already have, but I will only have space for so many. The tank at present is an 18x10x10inch.

Thanks,
Momar

Also what are the dimensions of a 10gal?

Well, very few fish will stay under 1.5cm long, with the neon at 4cm being the smallest I know of that is commonly available in the hobby. Not much options for fry control with that size.

dimensions of a 10g: 20"x10"x12"H

I mean guppy fry below 1.5cm :D
The fry-eating fish can be whatever size as long as you think it will be comfortable in that size tank. Water depth is around 8 inches.
Also, the tank temperature is 20-24C (68-74F) depending on season as it's unheated.

One fish comes to mind, a Paradise Fish. It will aet any guppy that will fit in it's mouth. A Paradise Fish will be just fine in a 10 Gallon and they are fun to keep. They are jumpers and will even jump out of the water to try to get flakes from your finger tips.

Could it be kept in the present tank (7 or 8gals), or is that too small?

It would be happier in a larger tank but it will be fine in that 7 to 8 gallon tank.
