I have one angel fish (arent they supposed to be in pairs??) and it has started to become aggressive with the 2 gouramis (sp) in the tank...what could be the cause of this?
Ive only recently moved them (the fish and the tank) from my workplace to my home...all going well until i noticed it attacking and becoming territorial today....

any ideas? is this "normal" for angel fish??
I dont know what to do ....im very worried for the other fish

Angelfish are in the cichlid family and have some aggression habits that would lead me to believe that they could easily be unfriendly with gouramis (who are normally not angels themselves)...I'm not surprised that the two didn't mix well.....Both are finicky fish about tankmates and will kill until they have their perfect tank preferences...

I agree. get either you angel or your gouramis out of there before one gets killed or get a bigger tank!
:(

Oh my word!! I had no idea - I mean, as I didnt originally set up the tank..and have just inherited it.

I will be inheriting the other tank tomorrow - its has the following fish...I wonder if someone could tell me if I can move the angel or the 2 x gouramis into that one?

1 x upside down catfish
2 x clown loaches
1 x pleco
2 x albino corydoras
and 2 other small fish who I cant identify ...

any ideas?

The angel fish is in with 2 x gouramis and 2 x albino corys and has been for the last year.....but they have been at my place of work, and probably no one has noticed their aggression.

Now they are home with me, its just that I see them all the time and have noticed it.
I cant move anyone anwhere until tomorrow, when I receive the second tank (complete with other fish)..and now im worrying in case they kill each other in the night?!

What is in the first tank with the angelfish?

Angels will eat small fish like neon tetras. In fact, neon tetras are the main course for wild angelfish.

roan, not to question your wisdom, but my mother's first tank consisted of 5 neons and and angel in a 10g tank, and the angel never even noticed the neons.

If your angel was in a 10 gallon with neons, the angel was not big enough to care about them. I have had angels clear out a schoal of neons in no time flat. I drop in feeder guppies for them once in a while instead of the $ neons...
nope... my mom's angel got to 6 inches and still never touched the neons... guess it's 'cause she grew up with them! :joke:

My full grown angel (4-5") lives with 4 blue gouramis in a 37. Very rarely do I see him chase a gourami. He terrorized the two 4" silver dollars in the tank with him to no end until I gave the dollars away. I'd heard that some angels can be kept with neons, but mine made quick work of 10 neons overnight.
