A new fish store just opened around me with a big splash in the Phila. papers - full page ads. It is called The Fish Factory. Is this store just local or are there other stores in around the country and this is their Phila. rollout. They claim everything discounted every day, over 20,000 fish in stock. The problem is they are open only on Wednesdays noon to 8PM.

Anybody heard of this store?

Why not give them a call and ask if they're connected to Uncle Ned's Fish Factory in Millis Massachusetts? (Unlikely!) Why not give us the address? Is this in Philadelphia?

That doesn't make a single bit of sense... they are only open Wednesday for 8 hours? I think either the owner doesn't know what hes doing or you need to re-check the ads

wetman the address is 12301 McNulty Rd., Unit J Phila. From the ad it looks like it is just off Roosevelt Blvd. (US 1). Their website address is www.fishfactory.us. From their it appears that they do "professional aquarium maintenance services for residential and commercial customers, which may be why they are open only on Wednesdays.

If I were anywhere near, curiosity would have me in there this coming Wednesday. The only thing that would make me more curious, would be if they were "open by appointment."

"Joe sent me..."

Anybody going to give us a report?

The fact that they are open only 1 day a week to the public is not that odd.

Several breeders operate in a similiar manner.

I know of one local breeder who mainly sells mailorder via his website - but has been open for local pickup if you requested it. Well, I have purchased several fish from him and in speaking with him one day, he was telling me about his plans to expand from the one floor he has now into a 3 floor set-up in the same building once the person occupying it left that space shortly. WHen he does this, he plans to have limited time - 2 or 3 days a week - open to the public - with the remainder of the time closed to focus on his mailorder business.

So if this store is mainly a commercial provider, and has other revenue lines, it wouldn't be odd to have limited hours. That said, it may be a great opportunity to get some quality livestock at good prices. I would check it out.

I know the fish I purchase from the breeder I noted above cost much less than what I would pay at the LFS - and are of excellent quality. Plus they are some of the rarer ones that many LFS don't typically carry

That doesn't make sense, only being open 1 day. So many people are going to go during the week thinking that it has normal hours and be disappointed at something like that. Then, on Wednesday, the place will be flooded. Thats a joke.
