I just purchased a 55 gallon tank 48"X12"X18" I am thinking about making it a reef tank because I am bored with freshwater, I have done alot of reading but I am still open for suggestions. The task at hand right now is finding the correct lighting, Im debating on weather to get the CURRENT USA ORBIT model or the 2006 ODYSSEA light fixture. The ODYSSEA model is alot cheaper than the CURRENT USA model.

go with odyssea save the money for getting good filtration system or skimmer. make sure you get the proper wattage for the size aquarium you have. 4 to 5 watts is recommended. you have live rock live sand? what else do you have for the aquarium so some of us ppl here can tell you what you need and dont need.

they will be more expensive, but look into T-5, or VHO, they will be all the lights you'll ever need.
as far as the filtration goes, if you are going w/LR that will be your primary filtration.
