Has anyone had any experience, good or bad, with buying plants off Ebay? Is it something worth my wild or should I stay away?

I've never tried eBay. Lowcoaster on AquaBid (http://www.aquabid.com/) has always provided top notch plants.

i never bought plants off ebay but i would try to stay with someone with high feedback and maybe a power seller or selling just a couple plants that are coming out of personal tanks.

I ordered Java Moss of off Ebay last week, and it came in the mail yesterday. Since I'm a plant newbie and this is my first live plant, I can't really say that it is excellent quality because I don't really know. I can say that it looks exactly like it did in the picture. I looked at it a few minutes ago and it has some new green growth that I didn't notice yesterday. I did not have any problems. The plant arrived fast and alive. I got a nice size clump which may be bigger than what was advertised. And it appears to be healthy. The plant was packed very well. I bought it from a seller that had great feedback 100% positive (no negative, 1 neutral & the rest was all positive). Just make sure that you read the feedback. If the seller has any negative feedback, find it and read what the buyer wrote because it might be about something that wouldn't bother you. Also check to see what methods of payment they accept. Alot of the sellers will tell you if they have snails in their tanks and if they don't you can always contact them to ask questions. To make a long story short, lol, I didn't have any problems and will definitely order plants off of Ebay again!
Oh, another reason that I ordered off of this seller was because he said that if the plant arrived dead just send a picture of the plant in the unopened bag within 24 hours of delivery and he would send a replacement free of charge. He would not even charge again for shipping.
I've ordered from http://stores.ebay.com/Aquarium-and-Pond-Plants that seller quite a few times and they're always prompt and leave feedback. And the plants are nice. Some sellers will send you the tiniest portions....

I second, third and fourth Lowcoaster on AquaBid. This is a direct link to all his auctions:

When I started reiverix and Daveedka recommended him to me and I've been *extremely* happy with his plants.

Lowcoaster (charley) is a great resource, as well as some of the folks on aquabid.com
I personally get good results with trading and purchasing from hobbyist who post in the for sale sections.
