Hello All,

I am going to try breed some fish again soon but I always get spawn fungus. I heard that you can use H202 (Hydrogen Peroxide) to fight it and this intrueged me. I have used it before when growing muchrooms and it worked great at keeping other fungus out one mine had colonized. Seems weird but it worked ;) hehe

Anyone got any good FAQ's, guides or links to good posts, which deal with this method? I'd be really keen to read through some stuff.

Thanks :hi:

1 ml per gallon... (Assuming a 3% solution...)
I have used this and sucessfully hatched most of the eggs. However, if the eggs are not fertilized properly, or the water parameters aren't just right with the fish, the eggs will turn white and some will fungus. Oh, I've also used the peroxide with a towel thrown over the hatching tank to keep extra light out...

OK. I'll try that.

Have heard about keeping light out but that doesnt make make much sense to me. Fungus doesnt need light to live so i dont see how cutting it out would help??

hmmm

Also, I am planning on placing the eggs in a sterile tank with clean aerated water for hatching. What's the best way to move the fry to a mature tank without shocking them to death?

Thanks

Most breeders I know use MethyBlu to prevent fungus. I have used it with good results.

I wait till the fry are at least 1 month old before I move them - if they are delicate fish, I'll wait 2. During this time, I slowly change the water to match the parameters of the mature tank. When I am ready to move them, I put them in a large floating plastic bowl with their water, and float the bowl in the mature tank. After 10 -15 minutes I begin adding 1/2 cup water of the mature tank every 4 minutes until the bowl almost sink. Pour out 1/2 water and do it again.

I breed rams though, you might not have it so rough! I have to hatch them in pure RO, and then slowly add a little hardness to the water after around 3 weeks... bla bla.

I don't do the meth blue because I don't want it in my water when the eggs hatch. I've heard the meth blue works because it keeps out so much of the light. No idea if this is true or not but that is why I just throw a towell over the tank.

Good Luck,
Cathy

Well, my female is doing a lot better. The only evidence that she's been bitten is that her tail is a little shorter than it should be but its growing back nicely and she's as lively as ever.

My catfish didnt spawn this weekend tho, which is who I had the hydrogen peroxide ready for. Oh well. Will probably move my rams next door to each other this week I hope. Just need to find a home for 2 baby cats cause I think the male might boss them around a bit. Especially if there is a sexy female on the other side of the glass ;)
