Magic jet whirlpool

When I bought my new 4 foot tank (55 gallons) I was given as part of the package a magic jet filter 1000. I have tried experimenting with the splash bar and without straight under the water but the flow is far too powerful. It is battering all my newly planted plants. The problem is I cant find any way of turning it down? Ive never used a filter like this before. Does anyone use one? Can it be turned down or is it the wrong size filter for my tank?

Alright, I'll take a stab at this. The 1000 will work for up tp 300 liters/79 gallon tank. It might be too powerful for you. I'd go with an external filter personally. If you want to keep this one, is there a way to block part of the flow into your tank. I've used some flexible clear tubing slit down the side to lower the bubble flow on my bubble bar before and it worked great. You might want to try that. Its cheaper than getting a new filter at any rate.

What I've done with the spray bars on my xp2 is point them at the back of the tank and slightly down. It seemed to really help dissipate the force because all the water was glancing off the back wall then spreading out. It might help a bit.

yes sploke I tried that but the force is just ridiculous!! What I have done that does seem to help a little is to stretch a tiny piece of pantyhose over the end of the spout fastened with a rubber band and made a small hole in the middle. This has helped to reduce the flow to a more manageable level. Thanks :)

you could also drill more holes and make each hole bigger.

That's what I would suggest, too. More holes and if that doesn't work, make them bigger. Forcing water through small holes makes it more powerful.
