I just moved into a brand new house and installed a Culligan water softener as well as a Culligan four stage reverse osmosis drinking water tower under the sink. Previoulsy I had always bought my water from the LFS and really had no issue with it. But those 5 gallon jugs aren't getting any lighter. My question is....do you guys think this water is suitable for a fresh water system. I guess my main concern is the water actually being to soft. My TDS is 006-008 or so.

I also have a reef tank and am curious if anybody knows it the culligan water is ok for that tank also. My fresh water tank currently features clown loaches and would like to add a few plants eventually. Thank in advance...Any education would be appreciated.

For FW tanks we don't use TDS meters, so not many people are going to understand what you just posted :)

Most FW tanks are tap water. Is there something wrong with your tap water that you can't use it?

As for your reef, you can you post in the marine forums?

TDS meters are used by many soft water cichlid breeders. Your 008 is almost pure but will increase as it is used before the filter has to be replaced. If there is a tap BEFORE the Culligan unit, you could use that water as is or if it is on the hard side you can add it to the RO water for desired hardness.
