Lighting...
I just posted something similar in the plant section...
I also wanted to post it here, since the FISH are THE reason for the tank.

I'm going to put together a 37 gallon (30x12x24) over the next couple weeks. I was considering a Freshwater Aqualite 1x65w 6700...

Will this wash out my fish? On my 60g, I have the Aqualite t5 strips... that have a 28xcolormax and 28w6700.

I suppose my question is... will this 6700 bring out adequate lighting in my fish?

The tank will probably be focused around a school of Praecox Rainbows, so coloration is important!

I will probably keep the plants a little easier.
I'm going to use Eco Complete as a substrate, and run maybe a Sword or two, perhaps some microsword.. some java fern and moss, and some assorted plants for fill and ground cover... maybe some moneywort and ludwigia and and or/corkscrew val.

Many of these plants have a lower light requirement, but I want growth.. a 37 is tall, and probably hard to light.

Thanks!

Not sure I totally understand the question, but I will tell you that the K rating refers to the colour of the light, not the intensity (which is determined by watts). For example, 6700 K is a yellowish light, and as you go higher, the colour becomes less yellow and more neutral. A 10,000 K bulb is a white light. I would think it would be the amount of light on the tank (wattage) that would "wash out" the fish's colours. The K rating of the light would give a slight coloured tint to how they are viewed.

What I'm asking.. I think.. is what would look best for both fish and plants in a freshwater tank...

its your personal preference.
if you go to lfs, they should be able to plug those in and see the bulbs then you can decide which look you like.

Yes, miso's right, it really comes down to what YOU like to look at. When I was choosing my lighting at Big Al's here in Toronto, a staff member showed me 2 different planted fish tanks--a 6700 and a 10,000K. I liked the whiter light of the 10 K so I got that.
