Carbon Question

So I have a55 with a fluval 304 and I bought some carbon a while ago along with a bag to put it in. I've been lazy and haven't actually put any in my filter yet.

My question is, will the addition of active carbon at my next water change shock my fish? I have an established tank and I'm worried about introducing a new "product" to my water, but I would like "crystal clear" water and the best environment for my fish.

Thoughts?

No I dont think it will harm your fishes. IMO you dont really need carbon in you fish tank unless its to remove medication. But if you want crystal clear water and the best enviroment for you fishes just make sure you have enough filtration and you keep up with your water changes. Other than that you should try some seachem purigen. It is kinda like carbon except better.

It will not hurt the fish, but I rinse mine off before I put it in to get rid of any fine dust.

You can get clear water with over filtration and repetitive water changes without the cost of carbon. Plan on changing it out weekly as it has a short life span for what you want to use it for.

I do use it in all my tanks and feel I get better clarity and some reduction in odors, and I feel it is worth the expense and effort.
