So, I finally got the right adapter for my faucet and got to doing a water change with it today. First tank went no problem...the second tank was another matter entirely and I spent longer than I've ever spent doing a water change trying to figure out what the heck the problem was...

My two 20 gallons are on the same stand - one on top, one on bottom. The top tank was the one with no problem. When I went to do the bottom tank the suction would start up but stop after a minute or two of good water flow. I checked for air, took the system down and set it back up again all to no avail. I must have wound and unwound the thing 5 or 6 times before giving up. It seems I'd get air right at the part that attaches to the faucet and that interfered with the vacuum. Has anyone else had this problem and were you able to find a solution? I'm beyond frustrated. I had a bad day at work and was looking forward to some nice fish communing time which turned out to be horrible as well. I guess when it rains it pours. :help:

I have a knock off version of the python, but i have had a similer problem. the threaded attachment (the plastic thing that threads on faucet neck) actually can screw out of the main valve assembly. look into where the python screws onto the faucet, there should be a 6 sided recess, put the head of a 1/4" or 3/8" bolt into this recess. you should be able to tighten it down.

try this, if you need more help PM me and ill send a pict.

Yep, happens often. They also sell a brass adapter that is more beneficial, you can even pick them up at most hardware stores.

I gave up using the Python to drain my tanks long ago. Didn't want to waste water to get water out of my tanks. I just run the one end out the window or doors into flower beds or onto the ground. Then fill back up from the sink.

That's what I ended up doing with the second tank, just creating a long siphon to the sink and not running water - it did not have strong enough suction to gavel vac though. I figure at the least it's a useful tool to quickly fill the tanks, even if it doesn't work for them all.

I'll take a look at the threading on it and see if everything is tight. I suppose I'll have to play around with it some more in a few days when I do my next change.
