i just got myself some new rainbowfish, they love to swim against the current generated by the powerhead, is this normal rainbowfish behavior? i did put some spots where there aren't much current but they hardly stay there.. they just swim around the tank following each other and attacking any floating debris that catches there attention..

and do these thing sort of "sleep"? i tried observing them at night and they were still chasing each other around... one will rest for a short while then off he goes again... its sort of fun watching them dart around but im kinda worried if they might get too exhausted.. just about 2-3 inches long..

ps.. these things look very hungry.. about 5 minutes upon entry into the tank they ate already... no adjustment period whatsoever :D

i m also thinking about putting some more dead spots for the current

and im looking for bottom feeders that might get along well with them rainbows and the h2o current..

from what i've read on roans posts and just online .... rainbows are very active fish and will swim around lots... That's one of the appealing aspects of them IMO.

They love current when they are younger but Roan said they will be too busy spawning as they get older and the need for it drops.

I can't wait to get my Rainbow tank going. I'm just about setup to receive my tank on tuesday ... I just have to figure out how to get the doors on the stand and figure out how this **** filter works. **** you Hagen for not giving me an instruction booklet.

Bowhead: noun

As defined by Gary Lange, Master Bowhead: first coined by Cary Hostrawser in the late eighties. IF you know about the band "Grateful Dead" and their hardcore followers, the "Deadheads" then you have an idea of what a real bowhead is! A bowhead will willingly put the cichlids in a bucket on the floor or send them back to the fish shop to make room for more rainbowfish. Bowheads have often been know to give their cichlid friends rainbowfish as "dithers" knowing that once they see a pretty and active fish that they will soon get rid of the ugly cichlids. There are many more extremes of "bowheadedness" but these are only a few examples.
