I love it ... What a great show. . .
having worked in restauration for years, both in the dining room and in the kitchen, watching the show brings me back to those days.
Chef losing it completely, workers not able to keep up with the rush, chef losing it more, stress level reaching the breaking point.. once that 9:00 rush comes along, there's no turning back!!!
I think it's a great show... I also like the other show chef Ramsey does. Can't think of the name off hand, but it's great. he works with restaurants that are close to closing their doors, and rebuilds whatever needs to be rebuilt. . . (Menu, people's attitudes)...
And one thing's for sure, Hell's kitchen totally beat that other show, where celebreties have a cook off,... Saw it once, and promised myself never to see it again!!!
Have you guys been following it at all?

I watched it yesterday.... I think Chef was making me more anxious than the TV people... my head was spinning and had me wondering who in the world could keep up with such a level of stress!... but I'm sure if you'd been or are in the field, you can relate.... I couldn't.....

Doll, it's tough . .. if I didn't work in it, i would have never thought it could be as hard as it is. When you get those 50 people sitting down all at the same time, and you know they're paying 45$ for a piece of meat, the chef will make sure that everything goes out as it should. I've seen kitchen staff actually cry, break down cause of long shifts. it'[s really something.
But, when that last order is sent out, it's a great feeling, knowing that over 100 people came to this place to appreciate the chefs food, and you were part of making that happen. . . .

I think these are sad times when people allow themselves to be humiliated and verbally abused in order to be on television.
To me this show is an exercise in sadism for the chef, and masochism for the contestants.
If this guy was my boss, I'd give him a swift kick in the fajitas and then head down to my nearest worker's rights office to have his a** fired.

oh, I totally believe it, Cheech... totally. I thought my job was tough...
I guess the reward is worth it too, if that's what you're into.... cooking and restaraunt stuff and all that... I mean I guess that's what it's all about in most places and this isn't any different other than the demand being so tight.... I'm not really sure what I'm trying to say but it makes sense to me... hehehe.... ok ok, long day, skip it.
hehehe, I couldn't believe the part where the lady was like.... "are we ever gonna get any dessert".. I almost feel off the couch as I had just watched all the spinning and plates destroyed and started over and trashed in the kitchen, lol

It's not about that. It's about getting the best person to be head chef at a multi million dollar restaurant. . . not anyone can do it... ony the best person can handle the pressure.

I think Cheech has said it straight--it's a tough business, and if you can't cut it, get out. Not much worse than having to please the public (done food service, and the WORST, womens' retail clothing--high end); when people are putting out alot of money for something, they expect absolute perfection and to have their a**** kissed the entire time. And yes, these competitors are vying for a top-class restaurant, so if they can't turn out perfect food in perfect time, too bad. Ramsey is an artist, successful, and yes, prima donna often comes along with that.
Please to remember--the people b****** about their food are only paying for the booze (if that). Ever notice that sometimes the same snots are on consecutive nights? Pretty amusing, all told. Other than that, I prefer the reality of life. :D

Sorry, can't agree that hostile behaviour is OK just because it's in the name of high quality/productivity.
High pressure in a job is one thing, verbal abuse is something else. Anyone who takes crap like that on the job needs a lesson in self-esteem issues. Any boss who treats their staff like dirt needs an attitude adjustment.
I mean, these guys aren't fighting a war for crying out loud-- they're making an omelette.

Well, you can look at it this way.
According to our President, "these are the jobs that Americans just won't do."
Wouldn't it be a great 'spin-off' show called "Hell's Illegal's in the Kitchen"?
Now that's a show I'd watch.
How long would it take for everyone to walk off, or put that guy in a hospital?
:D
(and yes, I have done this type of work, and other jobs the Pres said Americans won't do...)
