Kuhli Loach

I almost lost my kuhli loach today!! I was doing a water change and thought I'd take out one of my decorations, a log type thing. I took it out, changed my water, moved all the decorations around (did a pretty thorough cleaning, actually) and thought "I didn't see my loach today...I hope he's okay" I cleaned everything up and went into the other room to work on the betta tank, and thought I'd just look in again on the main tank. There was someting on the floor, and when I went to investigate it, it was my loach!! I picked him up and put him back in the tank and he swam away. I hope he'll be alright. He must have been in the log decoration, though I thought I shook it out before I removed it. Geesh.... :huh:

I had the same thing happen with an upside-down catfish. I thought he had died, but never found a body. Then I found him lodged in a decoration, which I had cleaned numberous times under tap water and even left out for almost an hour. Now I know that it's his little cave and he only comes out at night (he's not stuck).

Fishies are surprisingly resilient, I guess. Loaches are pretty good jumpers, so make sure you have a secure lid. I don't know how long they can survive out of water, but they tend to be pretty hardy. I love my dojo loach and if anything happened to him, I'd cry. The little guy takes food from my hand and will even curl up in my palm!

How many Kuhlis do you have? Those guys just love to hide in plants and decore.

Had one of mine fall out of a small crack in driftwood literally seconds before I was about to put it in a pot of boiling water.

Well, I only have 1 kuhli , but want to get 2-3 more whenever my lfs restocks. I haven't seem him again since the incident, and assume that's a good thing. :)
