Sand substrate and UGF?

Ok, does 2 posts in one day make me a post-a-holic? ;)

I've been slowly evolving my 10g guppy tank from colorful and playful, to all natural (only plants, rocks, etc.) and want to know if sand is ok with a UGF? All I picture is the sand getting forced up through the riser tubes or something ( I obviously don't know much about my UGF, only that it helps keep everything clean).

No you can not use sand with a UGF or RUGF, You should not even use small gravel. A medium sized gracvel is ideal.
 
If you took out the UGF, you could go with sand. But not with it.
