What's the best location for the intake of a power filter... in the center, or in the corner?
These things are big... bigger than I though.. (HOB's). I think I should have gone with a canister!

I place mine in the center of the tank. I do this as I also have a RUGF system and when the gunk gets pushed up into the water the HOB can suck it right up. It also allows a more even flow in the water so it can pick up more gunk in the water. If you put it in the corner you will then need something else in the water to push the gunk twords the intake tube. This is just what I do and it seemed to work well like this even before I used the RUGF. Hope this helps.

i place mine to the intake is in the middle of the tank unless i have a fish that doesnt like high current....
If that is the case.... I try to place the water splashing end as far to one side as possible.... this makes it so only one half of the tank has a high current... and the other is relatively calm....

Well, my issue is that where the tank is placed, the filter would be "hidden" on the right side of the tank, but the Emeror 280 is setup so that it works best on the LEFT side of the tank. It's also huge... so where it's placed, you would look right at it when you come in the front door.
I was thinking about exchanging for an Aquaclear 70.. it's intake is on the opposite side, it's also not quite as deep, and also doesn't come as far over the back of the tank... into the tank.
I've been thinking about this a lot, and I still find that I'm not sold on a Biowheel. It's not really a fair estimate, but I started a 12 gallon Eclipse 3 weeks before my 60 gallon Fluval 404, and the Fluval system STILL cycled well before the eclipse. I old find the wheel noisey. If I STOP the wheel , it's silent.
I'm thinking the Aquaclear, you use two foam blocks and just rinse them out... or use BioMax.. It's cheaper to buy, maintain... but you have one less moving part.
