We can't see much from the pictures, but you can tell platy sexes very easily.
Female has a fan shaped anal fin.
Males has a gonopodium (shaped like a small stick) instead of an anal fin.

both female (that doesnt mean they cant be pregnant, depending on how long you have had them). if the swollen abdomen appeared quickly after a feeding she probably just ate a lot. if it developed slowly she may be pregnant.

Much better. Yup, both females as you can see the true anal fin.

Both are female, but I can't say for sure if they are pregnant. Do you have a male in your tank?
well when i got minnie (the mickey mouse one) from the store i picked her like that because she lloked pregnant so she came like that. the other i thought was a boy cause she's much smaller and after a few days she developed a belly that doesnt go away between feedings. i dont have a male by the way....thanks to petsupermarket.:mad2:

then they could both be pregnant and unless precautions are made them and the tiger barb will eat most of the babies.

In those pictures they don't look pregnant. They could just be well fed. How often do you feed them?

well thats the thing if they were like that cause they were fat they would get thinner between feedings or wake up thin but they're always like that 24/7
as for the babies issue with the tiger barbs, i'm not thinking about keeping the babies anyways i have no mean of where to raise them or any idea how so......

Fish can constipate very easily, so I wouldnt think theyd look thinner between feedings. If any food hits the bottom of the tank, youre over feeding OR feeding too much too fast. Their stomachs are baout the size of their eye, if that helps.
how do i know when they're about to pop? are there any signs so i now when to seperate them into a breeding net thingy.

sometimes in lighter colored individuals you can see the eyes on the fry near her vent as she gets closer to giving birth. yours might be a little too dark for that. i wouldnt assume it was constipation, i havent found it to be common.

I think you will be able to see little eyes with those platys. I could with mine and they were the same color.

whats the best breeder in your opinions? i saw one that seperates the mom from babies so that the babies are kept by themselves then theres the one that you take the mom out or something. help please! oh and if the momma is like all alone in the top of the tank or like slowish is this a sign shes going to give borth soon.

Your best option is to leave mom alone and provide plenty of places for the babies to hide. Their first instinct is to hide so make sure there is dense vegetation and other places to hide.

if you want to use a breeder that catches the babies get one with a V-shaped bottom that catches the babies in the bottom portion allowing you to pull her out when shes done and gives them the whole breeder to grow out in. get the biggest one you can find, some arent even big enough for a guppy in my opinion.

Java moss works very well to provide hiding place for frys.
yeah i saw this little patches of grass that they sell as hiding places is that enough? remember theres a tiger barb in there although he's really nice actually i think he's a baby so he hangs out with the bigest gold fish like it's its mommy. it's so cute. but i dunno.....

I have seen plants that are called baby hides. Little bushy plants that babies can use for protection. They work pretty good.
well i went to the pet store today and showed the fish guy what my fish look like compared to some he had in the tank and he pointed out some males that look like mine so i'm starting to think they're just fat. om the other hand i got a balck mollie that is definatly pregnant. i may be wrong, can someone post a pic of a pregnant mollie. oh yeah and i put a whole mess of the baby hide plants just in case, sound ok?

there shouldnt be any goldfish in there. the water parameters should be different for them and platies, barbs, mollies and eveything for that matter.

He's right. You have a coldwater fish with tropical fish. What kind of fish is your tank stocked with? What is the temp of your tank?
P.S. I wouldn't shipwreck myself in the living room. I would shipwreck myself in the kitchen by the fridge. I think I would use a bow and arrow system for communication. Glad you enjoyed the joke.
well my tank is definatly overstocked thanks to the lovely people at petco. in just a 2.5 gallon i have, get this, a tiny tiger barb two goldfish, two platy, and a molliie. WOW! i'm crazy i know. but the goldfish will be coming out soon and others moved to a bigger tank. ok laugh it up! lucky for me everyone seemse to be doing fine every is happy and no one has killed eahc other....yet. :thm:

Your tiger barb will soon rip everyone to shreds, especially in that tiny tank. You may want to consider taking him back. He will definitely seek out and eat any babies.
Please upgrade soon. And yes, take the goldfish back. They need 20g per fish if they are Fancies and 50g per fish if they are feeders.

gold fish. that may simply be describing one of them but it sounded like goldfish to me. better to be careful than assume its not an actual goldfish.

If there is a goldfish, then it needs to find a new home. If there is just a gold colored fish then I can't say where it should go because I need to know more than it's color. I agree that the Tiger Barb also needs a new home.
ok just so theres no confusion here are my fish

i think the only ones missing are the other goldfish although i think her/his head is sticking out somewhere and the new mollie.

well than you have a decent tank to raise the fry in from the platies if they are (which is most likely) pregnant. and that is about all you can do with that tank. for a couple mollies, couple platies, and a tiger barb you should have at least a 10 gallon. tiger barbs are schoolers so you really should have a 20 gallon and add to the school. as is you will be lucky if that tanks chemistry doesnt collapse within a few days. changes need to be done tomorrow if the pet stores around you have already closed today.

oh i thought it was 2.5 oops just saw the box in the trash. tee hee. so yeah the tiger is so cute, i feel bad i'll give him a good home with my cousin she has one of those big *** tanks with nothing but a pleco and plants she could easily get a nice school of them going. so yeah as for the gold fish my uncle has a pond so he could have them he was looking for some, i really dont want to give them back to the pet store to be sold as food for other fish, my poor little skunk *the gold fish*. so yeah do platy babies hide as well?
