Hello, I have a friend who says that after her female fancy guppies give birth they just die the next day. She says that her water levels are stable and they are the same that she has always had them at. She says that the Fry seem fine and go into the breeding grass she has until they grow larger. Another friend of her says she is also having the same problems with her female guppies. They are healthy one day and then after giving birth they die for no reason. Are they doing something wrong, is there something they are supposed to be doing that they are not? I told her I would ask you guys and see if there was any ideas as to the problms. Thanks

I've had female guppies survive many births.......but I just took a dead one out of my daughters tank...and found 3 tiny little fry in the process...so she must have gone right after having them.

I have no idea Needeles !

she most likely is not

cuz my female guppy died after her 3rd birthing. it could depend on the age of the females that she has if she bought them (because i bought a large female guppy and i had her for about 5 months she could have been more than a year old already) or if she had raised them from birth herself, it could be a genetic thing...

is the female in a breeder? or is she in a separate tank? if she is in a separate tank, then make sure its a big tank and she will be a happy fish, breeder nets and boxes are bad from my experiences, if she is in a community tank, just have lots of plants and it will be less stressful on the fish

Well, its good to know I'm not the only one having that problem. I'm going to try putting the male in the breeder box for a couple days after mine has her fry. I figure it will be less stressful for her that way, and the fry have tons of places to hide so I'm not too worried about them. I was thinking that maybe I hadn't given the females enough time to rest after birth or something.

I never keep males with females as the males continually harass the females and stress them. females guppies can live for up to two years but continual birthing and harassment from the male does take its toll. Large tanks with no males (keep them in a seperate tank) and plenty of plants for the fry to hide in is the way to go.
