i have my for about a year and it seens that every 2 weeks my water starts to turn green i dont thinks its the filter its a 30 gallon tank i dont know what to do :help:

does it have natural light on it at any point in the day?

Does it have a sump?

Are you adding any chemicals to the tank besides water conditioner?

If you are getting direct sunlight on it then most likely this is your problem. Try moving it to an area were there is not any direct sunlight hitting it. This should help clear it up alot. Sunlight helps promote Algae growth, this is most likely why you are getting green water. How often do you do water changes?

You should try doing more water changes at least 1/week, that may help.

How much do you change when doing the water change, how big of a tank do you have, how often do you clean the gravel?

Ok Chico, so it is by a window and you take out ALL the water and replace it every 2 weeks is this correct?

Well this is most likely the cause of your problem:

1. Move it away from the window the direct sunlight is not good for your tank, as it can promote algae growth.

2. DO NOT take all the water out of the tank.

You should be changing your water weekly (at least), if I were you I would do about a 20-30% water change. This means (not being smart) but I'm not sure you understand at this point..take out ONLY 20%-30% of the water and replace that add your easy balance (if you can get Prime or Amquel) at least once a week a couple times a week if you can until it stops turning green.

This should help, I'm sure someone else will chime in if I'm wrong and/or with other suggestions.

Good luck :)

Take all the water out?

You might just want to do a healthy 30-50% weekly.
If you can't move the tank, at least block the side with exposure to the window with some background material.

Are you still using easy balance? I'd stay away from it, just use the appropriate de-chlor.
