Hello all

just joined yesterday so i guess i should start with a big hello :)

yesterday my hubby bought home a Pepper cory, wich i am assuming is a bottom feeder from the way he looks and acts. can anyone tell me some info on them? he is a cute little thing and just wanted to know how to feed him. we use special pellets for the sucker cat fish in the tank is that enough?

The advice to get more corys is a good one. I started with 3 peppered corys. They were fun but kinda inactive. All I did was add 2 more and now they are different fish. They are always active. They play, chase, and always working to clean the tank. Their personality really comes out in larger groups.

As far as feeding goes, I feed normal flakes. I supplement every now and then with algae wafers and sinking shrimp pellets. They are great fish that earn their stay. Enjoy your tank.

thanks for the responses........doesn't it suck that petshops are willing to sell you the fishies but they are not willing to help or have no clue how to keep the guys happy......i will get 3 more by the weekend.

aprox...I have a 85 litre tank. fresh water tropical

2 silver dollars
1 sucker cat fish
2f guppies one male guppy (sounds cruel i know but i let em breed in tank for feeder fish for the dollars) and
Silver shark had 3 but two jumped out at a water tank change when my hubby decided to go pee instead of stand there with his arms over the tank to dicourage escapes. we did not find them till 4 days later. we were devistated. :(
1 pepper cory
1 faintail gold fish (my first fish ever had him for 3 years)

30 litre fresh water tropical

2 female guppies 1 male 1 yellow sucking cat fish........this tank will become a male guppy tank as soon as the females die off but am more than happy to wait......saw a male guppy tank setup at local fish shop and it looked great so cannot wait to get mine going.

thanks for the advise i really do enjoy my new pepper addition and now am quite excited about getting more to see how they behave.

Angelisis,
Your tank is more than pretty full. The silver dollars get to be about 8 inches and if the sucker cat fish is a common pleco they can easily excede 12 inches. The silver sharks will also grow to about 12 inches and they like to school in groups of about six. If the fish are young you will be OK for a little while. But, fairly soon you will need to get a much larger tank or remove some fish. I also agree that mixing cold water fish and tropical fish in not an option. You seem to really care for your fish and I'm sure you will do the right thing for them. The people on this forum are very knowledable, kind, and helpfull. I am sure they can help you with care and stocking in the future.

Happy fish keeping
