i have a BF tetra that has a wound on its side. i was going to isolate it and treat with Melafix but i do not have the means to right now. but today, i checked up on my school, and the tetra now has some sort of white cottony growth on its side. the fish looks fine, although looks can be deceiving. is it fungus?

should i isolate it now and treat with both melafix AND pimafix? all i have is a small container that i used to temporarily keep my betta's in, you know those little plastic containers we all see. the ones they used to give you hampsters/turtles in. its plastic with a cover on top. i do not know the size of it though. but would that be adequate enough to store a single tetra for treatment? or should i treat the entire tank? is the fungus contagious/harmful?

thanks

fungus can be contagious, but rarely, unless all your fish are injured, of course.
treat just the tetra, and the whole tank if other fish start to develop it. you can treat the tetra with either a salt treatment or a commercial fungicide.

i've found a 1 gallon container, that should be fine for 1 tetra right? i also have both melafix and pimafix, one is antibacterial and the other is antifungal. i hope this helps it.

wont h get lonely?

yeah, thats what i didn't get about your previous post. it's not going to die of lonliness just because its a schooling fish. its going to be only for a few days anyways, and the fungus/wound has a better chance of killing it than lonliness.

yep, perfectly fine.

also, i've notice some sort of fungal growth near the back of my tank where my plants and a ship ornament are. i noticed it when i had my tank running for 3 days a week ago, and it was probably due to a plant. the plant needed more light and it started to die, with some of its leaves falling off. i did a 100% water change, removed the plant and its fallen leaves and clean the ornament. the ornament was very slipery and slimy, and was coated on one side with a white cloudy thing, which im pretty sure is fungus.

just now as i was inspecting the tank and taking out that 1 tetra, i noticed that the fungal thing came back and was on the back side ship, but not as bad as before. will pimafix kill it off? i know its used as fish treatment, what about for situations like this?
