Hello! I am new to the forum, and I am a new tank owner. I've had a betta (Simon) for a year, and he lives separate of our tank. We have a 20 gallon tank with seven 3 month old swordtails, and two Mickey Mouse Pikkies. My question pertains to the swordtails. They are 3 months old, and I recieved them from a friend at work, whose swordtail had 2 batches of babies. She put some of the siblings of my swordtails in with their mother, and one has turned into a male (they are all born female, and some turn male, as I understand). I thought that perhaps one turned male because there is an adult female in the tank. However, I am concerned about my females. All of the fish in my tank are females, including the Mickey Mouse Pikkies. At what age can I feel safe that my little swordtails will not turn into males? The swordtails are of varying sizes, though they are all from the same brood. Thank you!

Oh, and its Platies, not pikkies....and the fry dont change gender, but rather develop their external gender indicators as they age. Usually you can tell when the fry are about a quarter to a half inch long if they will be male/female.
