A similar stocking list for a 10g of someone elses was ok'd by other forum members, but I just wanted to run this by everyone before I did anything.

1 blue dwarf gourami
4 male fancy guppies
2 platies
2 panda cories

If this is ok with everyone, the guppies are already in the tank (it was originally an all guppy tank and we've moved all but 4 from this tank to the 20g and the rest, my LFS gave me credit for). The tank is established and cycled. What order should I put them in? How long should I wait between adding each? Any suggestions?

Lose the platies, and go for 6 cories.

yeah the cories will enjoy being in a bigger group :)

I agree. get more corys to give them a proper school.

also.... livebearers are usually kept in the ratio of one male to 2 or 3 females.....

it keeps everybody a lot happier

i would also agree on the cories.. although you could probably get away with a smaller school of 4-5. I havnt' had dwarf gouramis, but i've had paradise fish before and they can be pretty mean! how are the dwarf gouramis on aggressiveness?

If they are peaceful then maybe something like:
-4 guppies
-1 gourami
-4 panda cories

As long as you keep up with water changes they should be pretty happy :)

Corys show the most complex and natural behavior in large schools (6+) and are generally recommended to be kept in 3-4 as a minimum. In that small of a tank, I'd probably go with four, and the smaller cory varieties at that.

Ok, I kind of have my heart set on these beautiful white platies at my LFS, we have another fancy guppy tank (20g) that we were also thinking about putting the cories in if we bought some. Could I replace the cories intended for the 10g with a proper ratio of platies?

That probably be okay as long as the gourami doesn't become aggressive torwards his tankmates. I've heard different people having different luck with dwarf gouramis in a community tank.

I think dwarf gouramis tend to only be aggressive if 2 males are housed together. they shouldn't bother guppies, and certainly not cories.

yeah, as long as there is enough space, I don't think your gourami will be aggressive.

A lot of people have had good success with livebearer tanks that house just males. Pandas are a great choice for smaller tanks. The only thing about if you did away with the cories, you would have no bottom feeders. (like think of tank levels)

I would pick one kind of livebearer or the other. (either guppies or platies)

I personally think that you would be fine with 2-3 pandas. I used to have 3 pandas in my 10 and they were very content. Would not be ideal, but I think that they would be very happy if you provide a structure or cave of some kind that they can chase each other, etc. Most pandas stay small (like less than 1.5"-there are size exceptions depending on the source.)

Just my opinion based on having pandas. I have never had a gourami before.

I was reading on guppies, cories and gouramis -- did you ever put all three of these fish in your 10g?

That is the mix I am thinking of and I have concern about the dwarf gourami.

Thanks for the info!

3 male guppies looking for some tank mates - maybe 4 panda cories and 1 powder blue gourami

I'm waiting on my LFS to get in some more panda cories, but right now my blue gourami and guppies are doing nicely together.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for replying!

I am also waiting on panda cories - none of the stores have them in! They told me they are expecting a shipment this friday.

I am glad to hear your gourami and guppies are doing well. If the panda's aren't in, maybe I'll pick up the powder blue.
