Hello....

I have a male swordtail with a white substance growing on him on various parts of his body. At the bases of his pectoral fins and along the side of his body are the primary places..... It is not Ich....

Any ideas on what this is? it looks kindof like cotton...

Will treating the tank with salt like you do with ich clear this up??

The tank inhabitants are the swordtail, platy's, and a betta....

Any help is greatly appreicated.......

thank you

it's a fungal infection. treat it indivdually with fungicide or a salt treatment.

A true fungal infection is generally found on damaged/injured tissues, more than likely a Columnaris infection.
Fungus has been generalized into anything white/fuzzy looking on a fish and thus medications that fight fungus/body fungus have been designed to fight both.
I recommend treating the entire tank as Columnaris should be considered contagious, I'd treat with any quality OTC fungal effective med.
