In dealing with these sick discus, I've been exploring a lot of different options for treatment, mostly because I have no idea whats wrong with them. One thing that was suggested to me was that the original discus, which was sick when I got it, had developed a tolerance for whatever was ailing him, but that its still in the water. That would explain why everything else I put in the tank gets sicks and/or dies.

However, bacterial infections usually don't go dormant or linger around without having an effect, i.e. if it was still in the water, that one discus should be constantly fighting it, or it would go away. A virus would have the effect of being dormant while waiting for another host.

When we treat fish, the main things we look for are either parasitic, fungal, or bacterial cause. There's never any mention of viral sickness. Is that because there's no way to treat it, or because fish don't get them?

No, the only thing its been treated with is General Cure and Furan-2.
