I plan on buying a 75 gallon.But first im going to build a stand.I dont want to buy one because they are to expensive.I am going to make the stand out of wood.should i add trusses under the stand for support.for filtration i am going to add two aqua clear (200) 50 gallon filters for each side.I plan on adding sand for the subtrate..............and finally the fish are going to be two reddevil cichlids.


is this a good idea.And is there anything else i should add.

As far as using two ac50's, I would suggest a little more filtration. I use two ac50's on my 38g. For my 75g I use a rena filstar xp3 and an ac110, but I am anal about my water conditions. I like them crystal clear, and my fish love the current.

I'm not sure where you were going to purchase the filters, but bigalsonline.com and petsmart.com has great prices on them. If you have a partsmart close to you, they will match the online price if you bring in a printout.

The directions for the stand provided in the previous post look good. I used 2"x6" verticals in the four corners and 2"x4" verticals at the centers for my 75g stand. Then 2"x4" "boxes" top and bottom (boards flat on verticals top and bottom). Stand didn't even creak when I filled the tank <g>!

I agree with wobble on the filtration. I originally used 2 Aquaclear 110s and now use one plus an Eheim 2217 canister. The 110s are great at mechanical filtration since they flow a lot of water. I use two sponges (nothing else) and rinse them when I change the water (every week).
 
I built a stand for my 55 out of two prefab cabinet packages, one with a set of drawers, and one with a cabinet. I added two 2 x 6's across the top of the two for added strength and support, and i've kept my tank for 4 years on it...no problems. I would strongly suggest building your own stand, better than paying 75 bucks for one.
