I need tank mates for my Silver Dollars!

55 Gal with 2 full grown Silver Dollars (about 5 inches diameter or so)

Originally, I was highly considering getting about 3-4 Discus to put in with these guys. After reading books and online information I have decided to pretty much go against this logic, although I found a few sources that said this would be okay. I think I would need a bigger tank because my Silver Dollars do tend to swim around the tank quite fast, which would probably stress Discus.

So my next task is finding a suitable tank mate for them. I would like to have a colorful, good sized companion because the tank looks very bleak and boring. I am not that interested in small fish like tetras, mollies, or little fish like that.

I have read into cichlids (jack Dempsey, convicts, green terror) but they all appear to be too tough for my Silver Dollars and the 55 gal tank would be a real squeeze anyway.

Can someone please give me some advice as to what good sized or interesting tank mates can go with my buddies or if you think the fish above would be okay???

The best tankmates for silver dollars is, silver dollars, becuase there schooling fish and like to be in larger numbers. But, if you absolutely have to have more fish species, a three spot or similar gourami should look quite good once it gets large.

I used to have 5 or 6 Silver Dollars when I started out with them. That was over 4 years ago. A few died a long time ago and its been down to only 2 for the last few years. These 2 guys are invincible, but I need something else other then the color silver. Nevertheless, I hear ya.

Maybe a couple small cichlids would look nice in there like a couple firemouths or a couple convicts. Really any medium aggresive cichlid that stays about 5-6" would be good

What about Boseman's Rainbowfish? They are so colorful they remind me of peacocks in my tank. Maybe they'd make a nice contrast to the silver, though they only get to be about 4" or so. Just a thought anyway.
