I was wondering if there are any tricks to reducing the fumes or their effects when I'm pouring it into the tank?

Hmm, for your protection, maybe use rubber dishwashing gloves and some kind of eye protection (I know the fumes make my eyes water). For your tank, maybe buy a small air purifier (I use Tru Air) that uses carbon in its filter. Place it near the top of your tank, or at least in the room, and it may help absorb some of the fumes that are coming out of the cycling tank.
As for Mr. Pibb and red vines, yum!

or just suck it up and pour it in. its unpleasant, but its not going to kill you, and your working with such small ammounts for only a month, it just seems like too much work to be worth it.

Yeah seems pretty much cut and dry. I can deal.
I was just hoping there was a silly simple trick, like cutting the onions next to a lit stove or what not.
