maybe get a betta, or an african dwarf frog, or maybe a pair of endlers or least killies, or cherry or ghost shrimp.

magafish18
07-13-2006, 5:22 PM
i dont like betta. how about dwarf puffer?

fishcatch22
07-13-2006, 5:25 PM
no, too small.

fishcatch22
07-13-2006, 6:55 PM
i'd say your pretty much limited to what I just mentioned. anyone thinks of something I didn't list that he can add to a tank that small, by all means, give a holler.

I have a 2.5 gallon planted and I kept 3 het. rasboras in there for a while until I moved them to my 75. I have also kept 5 cardinals in there...I know it is a small tank for them, but it looks sweet!

It's kinda strange that this is the 3rd time this week that the "what can I put in a 2gal tank" thread has been started. I also find it kinda funny that you have been involved in all three. I think one or both of you are the same person who was Kyle12 and Killer12. Especially when magafish18 spells "pergnet" the same as kyle12 did. How about using the search function instead of asking the same question over and over again? Didn't you learn that leason in you multiple swordfish threads?

me?!?! c'mon, i'm not the same as this guy! why would I be answering my own thread question??

It's ‘lesser killie’ fish, also called a Dwarf Livebearer...personally I find it interesting you would argue with me quite angrily about you keeping a puffer in a 2g in two separate threads and then jump in here to repeat the info I gave you...just interesting...

fishcatch22

like I said, I learnt my lesson, and you are right. and I wasn't angrily arguing with you... i'm sorry you took it that way. I like you, and I consider you wise.

Why are people in here often so hostile and uptight? I just don't understand.

People get so worked up because of the nature of animal care. If you are a caring, responsible pet owner, you will be hard pressed not to get emotionally invested. I, for one, LOVE my fishies and am not shy about saying so.

I don't know about drummers, but it's always touchy when pet owners try to tell other pet owners how to do things. It's kinda like that lady at the store hitting her kids. You know everyone wants to tell her not to do it, but it's rude. Some people would go ahead and tell her off anyway for the sake of the children. There's not that kind of stigma attached to pet ownership. If someone thinks they have a better way of doing things, they go ahead and say it. Pet owners are probalby some of the most self-righteous people I can think of.

But maybe drummers get as defensive when another drummer tries to tell you how to play! I don't know. You guys are artists, so there's probably respect for letting everyone do it their own way.

Anyway, that's just what I came up with, in answer to your question, in the past 10 minutes or so... Although I've certainly thought about this one before myself.

I don't know fishcatch. Why would you create a bunch of posts on different fish and tank questions, and then post that you were lying about all of them? I'm afraid you are under suspicion now.

Megafish, 2 gallons is limited because of the size, and the fact that it can't be properly heated. In a room with a moderate stable temperature 2 male endlers would work, or 1 guppy (who might be lonely, but would have to remain alone for space reasons). In a cold environment perhaps 2 white clouds, although they are really schooling fish and prefer to be in a group of 6 or more. IMO bettas need more space than this, and they need a heated (or warm and stable temp) environment.

wait now you think that im kyle12? ok what fish does kyle12 have??? is he the one with the 1100 gallon tank lie? thanks for ideas but im not sure i want to do this. sorry.

I personally like crustaceans, so I have 3 ghost shrimp in my 1G with a little bushy plant. Ghost shrimp are cheap, easy to find and cool to watch IMO :) I also have a bamboo shrimp in my 5G, but I think he might do OK in a 2G also and they are attractive and cool to watch also.

Bamboo shrimp would get way to big for a 2gal tank, The 5gal tank is probably to small for it too. The bamboo shrimp can get to be around 5" and they are a filter feeder. You would never be able to keep enough food suspended in the water column to keep it feed without fouling the water very quickly.

I can tell you exactly why i'm so hostile. Fishcatch is the third person in less than two weeks that has made a bunch of posts and then said "I'm sorry I lied". People come here to get answer to honest questions I have no problem helping then, but when you get a bunch of kids on summer break that don't have friends and want to play games I get pi**ed. I really don't know whats wrong with kids nowadays, but if my father would have ever seen that I was lying to anyone I would have got a beating. Maybe that's why I can't stand being lied to.

I second that one. I had a tiny juvenile bamboo shrimp (1.5") in a 10 gal, and that wasn't enough to sustain him. He ended up jumping out, probably due to lack of food. I didn't find him until the next day and by then it was far too late. I want another one now, but I will house him in a 29 gallon AND supplement with filter-feeding invertebrate food.

You are right about the size of the bamboo shrimp, my mistake. I also have a young one right now, with the otpion of 10, 35 and 75G tanks to move him into when he gets bigger. As for feeding, they will eat algae, you can also drop small pieces of algae tabs into the water to disolve for them to eat. I also have a betta and quite a few plants in there to provide pelnty of food detritus for him. So, bottom, line, I retract what I said about a bamboo shrimp, but there are other forms of shrimp that make interesting occupants of small tanks.

fishctacher why did you lie in the frist place. now your troll.I repented, and said how sorry I was for lying, and that I had no intention of being a troll. for your information, I hate the kids at school. I came to this site to associate with mature adults and talk about my hobby. this tai95 person was not raised as gently as I was, and now that I see this I forgive him. I apologized, tai, and I made amends big time. I will never lie like that again. and if you read my post, I said that I was actually going to get all the tanks I mentioned in the future. it might be beneficial to you if you could open your heart and forget your past, tai. it is over now. you don't need to hurt me just for my youthful exuberance and my desire to fit in where anywhere else I couldn't. i'm sorry your father hurt you like that.

From the way tai posted, I don't think he has any problem with the way his dad treated him. All he is saying is that his father would hold him accountable and punish him for his lies. My mother would do the same thing. I am 24 years old and I can tell you if I lied to my mother today she would probably smack the s**t out of me. As she should. Some people don't forgive as soon as others and some really really hate being lied to. I know I hate it pretty bad...very bad. The reason I'm not ticked at ya is bc I didn't waste my time with your posts. Some people may have, and they might still be angry for it. You can just apologize and assume everyone will be hunky dory. You have to take into consideration that YOU lied to them, and you need to give them time to get over it.

I told my mom and she didn't hold me accountable, as she saw that I made amends. I know just saying "sorry" doesn't make it right. I am just trying to earn the trust of the masses again, and show them I didn't mean to inconvenience them. and I know it will take a while. I think I learned a valuble lesson.

Dude...let it go and we will all forget about it that much faster....

There have been lots of good suggestions for a 2 gallon tank, but remember that any mishaps will be magnified b/c its such a small space. Keep a close eye on your water parameters, be very careful about overfeeding, and definatly do AT LEAST weekly water changes of 40% or so...

guys, not to break up the party, but if you want to be taken seriously like you keep saying you do, please keep these types of exchanges to the chatroom, or the general chat area. Otherwise you’re just hijacking a thread. Just keep to the forum rules and DON'T post unless you can contribute to the thread. ;)

Back ON TOPIC, a 2 gallon, or a one-gallon, is good for 3 or so ADFs. 2gallons is fine for a betta. Or floating frogs if you can find them.

Very good points. I suppose I forgot about that fact being as though I've been absent from this forum for a while and concentrating on the drums.

Bad drumming advice won't kill fish or cause people distress. Bad fish advice most certainly will.

Though I do want to add that I consider fishkeeping an art as much as I do drumming. Let's not sell ourselves short! It's just that this art requires us to also obey certain scientifically important facts about physics and biochemistry.
