As wide ranging as cichlids are, and as dedicated/loyal as some keepers are to specific regional types...
I think you need to divide'em up into 'Best Looking of such-n-such category', e.g. the various African Lakes, Africa in general, Madagascar, South American, Cental American (this would generally include the few species which call southern North America home).

I like my german blue ram, but I gotta go with the mighty green terror.

Angels are too "plain" for me to consider buetiful, and have little to no charecter.
Rams and apisto's are too small for me to see from across the room.
Discus are too gaudy.
My three spot gourami isn't a cichlid, the same for the giant and snake skin
gouramies.
So, it's gotta be a midas.

I like frontosa. Though I believe others might see them as too plain. I forgot the name of the other one I like. Something like "escudendo" I believe. Most cichlids are beautiful though, except the mutilated ones. :duh:

Although I think a lot of the fish listed here are bueatiful its hard to argue that anything looks better than a lot of the Discus out there.

Like everyone else, I think my fish are the best. However I dont have the names of all of my fish.Take a look. The names I do know are the Electric blue, Ruby Red Peacock, Sunshine Peacock.
I managed to add a little file get your microscopes out.You cant tell from the pic but the top one has a yellowish body with really nice red fins, and to top it all off with a great metallic blue face.

Just Google Escondido cichlid or it's latin name Herichthys carpintis 'escondido'.
Here are some profiles,

Nice. Sounds like they are pretty aggressive though. I wonder how they would do with BP's and a Chocolate? hmmmm I would hate to get rid on my silver dollars and bala but if it would work I would do it! HA!

Grown male Jaguar cichlids are beautiful to look at and watch (until they demolish your other tankmates...)
