My 12 inch Bala needs canister filter help

My 12 inch Bala sports a 72 Gallon Bow Front Tank. I have been running a bio wheel the entire time. My buddies and other hobbyist say I need to go with a cannister set up. I'm pretty much in the dark about new products and the alike. Me and my bala have been kicking it for about 5 years now and I have assumed I have faired pretty well. So, can you help me out as to what would be a good filter switchover. I would like to maintain my 72 Gallon tank. My bala seems to dig it.

you dont need a canister. as long as the HOB your running is adiquite for the tank, but if you want the best of both worlds get a magnum pro 350, comes with biowheel and canister. I have one running on my 100G and It's worked very well for me
