Hey everybody, I need some advice on a tank I picked up this weekend. I managed to get a 37 gallon column tank. It measures 20" wide x 25" tall, not sure about the depth and too lazy to go measure right now. How would you all aquascape this thing. Its going to be salt, but I am not sure what fish are going to go in yet. I am taking the CPR backpack off my other tank as it is getting upgraded to the remora pro. Need some advice, I'm used to long tanks.
thanks.

Ok, no ideas yet on the decor for the tank. Second question is other than the live and base rock in the tank, and the CPR bak-pak, do you think I need other filtration. I've got a powersweep ph on the way for water movement becuase the CPR definatly doesn't move much. I had considered a canister, but I have never used one. Space on the back of the tank is at a premium.

I would just do a "coloum" rockscape (fit's the tank IMO) in the center going from the bottom of the tank to within 6-9" of the top, made up of about 5 tiers with OPEN caves that are easy for your fish to swim through and you to see through. Add to that some rubble on the substrate as well as a few caves if there's room, and you've got a complete aquascape. The rocks + the skimmer will give you decent filtration that's often recomended, as long as you have adequete powerheads (aim for 20+ gph via powerheads).

I agree a column of porous rockwork would look great. Make sure that your rock is well attached and not likely to fall and you will have a great look. Just remember when stocking to make sure you have fish that are rock lovers and not free swimmers like tangs that like the linear space to swim. Look for fish that occupy different areas of the water column and you will have a great look. Just remember to add appropriate powerheads for movement as the flow will not be the same as in a long tank and if adding corals remember that you will need stronger lighting to reach the bottom with that depth than is normally required in 37g long.....

sounds like a good sea horse tank

thanks for the replys. I will have to shell out some bucks for lots more rock.
In my area even base rock is expensive. As for fish, I have a pink skunk clown that I am going to move from a smaller tank I have. Once he is in there a bit and the rock is done I will go from there. I ordered a 270gph powerhead and coralife power compact light to go on. Maybe some pics once its all set.
