Wow!! This is wild, never imagined, and doubt they'll make it, but I have 5 Aulonocara nyassa peacocks, bought 6 weeks ago, and as they've developed, I'm coming on with 3 males and 2 females. Unlike the Taiwan Reef peacocks, who've been shagging all over the largest rock face, these guys did something on the DL.

I noticed one of the females hanging back in the big fake plant alot, not eating, and looked like she had a goiter. Umm, Thursday or Friday. When I got a close-up look Fri or Sat, I saw she had little black moving dots in the extended area under her jaw. Blah!! Some strange eeuuwwie? Nope, methinks it's offspring. And livebearers? Had no idea!! I've looked for info on internet but haven't found any, and have been caught up with a very sick beloved dog past few days who just had what I think was a huge stroke and died today so I had to dig a grave.

No pix, but has anyone seen this? Or direct me somewhere? Went on malawimayhem, cichlid.com, etc. Oh, these guys are also commonly known as Kaleidoscope Peacocks.

Ref sig below for 55: Amm 0; Nitrite 0; Nitrate @15 (just did a waterchange yesterday, I keep my tanks pristine ) Tank seeded media cycle/biospira 2.5 months ago. Man, last thing I thought of was babies, but now I'm thinking if I do at some point get viable fry, I could use them at school with my students (weeee, another tank!!)

THANKS!!! ~renee

I don't know anything about those particular type of fish but when it comes to babies, I have MASSIVE experience with my breeding green terrors. If you WANT to keep the babies, I would find a 5 gallon and separate them as soon as you can. Buy plenty of fry food or you could do the homemade thing and boil an egg, put it in a little water and shake it vigorously. Feed the babies SEVERAL times a day and be prepared to change your water FREQUENTLY during the week. Again, my experience is coming from raising batches of Green Terror babies so you may or may not be able to benefit from my experience here.

Hey, thanks, Jag, that's actually really helpful. She's still holding, but I'm having trouble catching her--these girls are slim bodied and a little over 2" in a 55g tank!! I'll keep trying as long as she's got them. Or next time. . . sigh. Babies. I'm not ready for this. Good thing I never had my own kids.
