How much filteration do you have in there? You should probably do water change.

Now Nate..what did you end up putting in that 29 gal tank?

Cloudy water is prbably a bacteria bloom which seems to be all to common with that size tank. Thy putting some boilogical media in the filter to give the bacteria something to cling to. Sometimes this will help the water clear up.

if you are determined to mix the two continents think west african. water parameters are similar. diets are not totally disparate. they just don't talk the same language. just be careful about temperment.
personally i would not mix the two continents. don't think it is the "best" thing to do. and i would thinkk we are all afer doing what is best for the fish--not the keeper.

bacteria need a surface to grow on and live on. things with high surface area, like gravel or sponges are perfect for this. the sponge is preferable as it sits in your filter, is exposed to air, so the bacteria won't compete with your fish for oxygen in the tank.
Whisper makes BioSponges to fit in their hang-on-back filters for exactly this purpose. They're called "Bio-Foam" and pre-cut to fit your filter. They look like a black sponge or foam, with a plastic frame to hold it in. it'll slip right into your filter, after the cotton floss filter. The cotton floss is your mechanical filter: that means it removes large particles that will otherwise clog your bio filter and reduce performance. the bacteria on the BioFoam are your biological filter. they'll eat up ammonia and nitrite.

no, like i said, there's a cottony mechanical media. those are disposable. that's probalby what you're talking about. the BioFoam is its own separate thing, with its own plastic basket. the cotton mechanical filter stuff fits around its plastic frame, on the outside, in other words. the black BioFoam sits INSIDE a holder. it fits in the space between the mechanical filter and the front where the water exits from.
the BioFoam is not disposable. you shouldn't throw it away, because you'd be getting rid of your good bacteria. just rinse it in tank water, or dechlorinated water if it gets "gunky." DO NOT rinse it in tap water, as the chlorine will kill your bacteria and you'll have to start over.
if you still don't know what i'm talking about, look up "Whisper Bio Foam kit" on the internet.

thanks alot plah831 ill get that tommarow. and how long should it take to work?

to be safe, i'd say about as long as it takes to cycle (a few weeks). that way you have the bacteria that convert ammonia to nitrite (step 1 ) AND nitrite to nitrate (step 2). the bacteria that perform step 2 take longer to grow, like at least 2-4 weeks.
are you still cycling your tank? do you have fish in it yet?

Read up on the nitrogen cycle... just google it. If you want to be successful at fishkeeping, you have to understand the nitrogen cycle. :) Its the biggest mistake new fishkeepers make.
Also, I would stick to EITHER the apistogrammas OR the german blue rams, not both. I dont think they would co-exist in a 29 gallon tank.

I would suggest picking up some test kits as well.... The basic 4 are:
Ammonia
Nitrite
Nitrate
pH
These will help you understand better what is going on in your tank.
