I wrote in two days ago about the water main break in my town. And that the water was coming out discolored.I wanted to make a water change when the water cleared up.The water has cleared up. But the water company says to boil the water till the EPA says its ok.They say boil the water because thier may be organisms or bacteria that are not safe to drink.Would the organisms or bacteria that are harmful to drink have an effect on my fish.

It will probably be better to wait than to use iffy water. You do not want to use contaminated water in your tank.

If you are really desperate to change to water you ca use some distilled water, but unless you have high amounts of chemicals in the water the fish can probably survive. When was the last time you changed the water? How much did you change?

Last week i made a 15 percent water change.I just finnished cycling the tank. This is the first time i will siphon dirt from gravel. When tank was cycling i just siphoned water out of the tank not the gravel.I have a 20gallon tank with four danios.

How are your test readings? If they are fie the you can go a few more days without a water change.

If test reading are high you could do a small water change/gravel cleaning with distilled water (buy a jug at the grocery store. Just make sure it does not have additives, or if it does treat it.

what is the difference between distilled and spring water.

Distilled water is void of any minerals.Essentially it is sterile water.Spring water has minerals in it.Freshwater fish need these minerals to survive and thrive.Do not use distilled water for water changes.
