What is the best way to make freshwater caves out of common aquaruim stones like lava rock and canadian lace rock?
Or whats the best way withany other stones like slate?
ALL DIY IDEAS WELCOME!!!!!!!

I like to play with whatever rocks you are using OUTSIDE of the tank first. I use masking tape to mark off the footprint of the tank, then start stacking and see what looks good! It's much easier to move rocks around when you don't have to worry about making the water cloudy, scaring fish, getting your floor all wet, etc...

What I plan on doing, using isom's metod of aquascaping outside the tank first, is to silicone the "caved" together so there's no danger of them falling down, killing fish, breaking glass, ect. I'll be using whatever types if safe rocks I can find, if that means anything to you.

One thing I did was put plexiglass in the bottom of the aquarium where the rocks will be to minimize possible pressure points on the glass. As far as caves, I found some nice flat river rock and put down two with a space between and put another over it, did sort of the same with slate. I basically just stacked and leaned the rocks against each other so they were stable and left a couple of little caves. I also leaned a piece a driftwood against a rock to create a larger cave underneath the driftwood for the pleco.
