I just switched to a 10g tank and initially I didn't add more gravel. Well ... I need more.

Can I just dump it in?

you need to wash it first but yes. I would drain the tank, remove old gravel, and put new gravel on bottom, then old gravel on top. nitrifying bacteria have colonized your old gravel and if you cover it it could start a mini-cycle, use de-clorinater.

my spell checker will not work on this computer, forgive the misspelling

Ugh - I REALLY don't want to drain the tank -- the gravel for the 10g was from a 3 week cycled 5 gallon hex.

How bad is it if I just dump in the rinsed gravel?

There's nothing wrong with that, as long as your carefull and don't hit.scratch ypour fish with the gravel. hmt321 just though you wanted to change out your gravel.

Can i ask why you need more gravel guppygal? Is this to be a community tank or a fry tank or what? How much gravel do you have in already?
You can dump in more gravel, just fill a jug or whatever and lay it in gently, no big deal :)

I am establishing a community tank. Right now I have 2 male guppies (I lost my third today or last night)

I will eventually add more fish.

why do I want to add more gravel ... because the gravel from my 5 gal does not cover the bottom of the 10 gal tank ... I see the glass bottom.

Oh right ok. Sorry i wasnt sure if you wanted a community tank with plants or whether you were going to use it to raise fry. If the former then continue adding your gravel gently but if it was to raise fry then just a covering of gravel to take the shine off is all you need :)
