I was thinking of maybe trying a few Parrot Blood Cichlids, and maybe some Red Devil Cichlids. Would that be ok? What other cichlids would be compatible with these guys?

parrots grow to be about 6 to 8 inches, i think, in most cases. i havent kept red devil cichlids but im going to get a blood parrot for my tank:)

2 parrots max 75 gallon would be better especially if you want red devils they are the most agressive and may kill off the rest you may end up with one red devil. If you want to keep plecos there are many out there that only get six inches or so. You could get cons or firemouths or rams for the 40 gallon?

Red Devils have that name for a reason. They are too mean to put with parrots.
I would do 2 parrots and an exotic pleco. Dont get a common pleco, they get too big for that 40 gallon and produce a lot of waste.

Keep in mind that a Parrot Cichlid can get to about 10" when full grown. They also like to be kept in groups. A 40g would simply be to small for even one of them. Also yes a common pleco can grow up to about 20" when full size. The above fish would simply get to big for a small 40g tank. You may want to look for something else.
