as some of you may know, i had a fungal infection since the begining of July, since then i've done water changes, removed carbon filter, medicated with Melafix and Pimafix and removed a couple of the the dead infected tetras (originally 3 were visibly infected, 2 died but 1 got better). now, all of my tetras are fine, they dont have the cottony growth at their gills.
but an indicator that the fungus is still in the water is that it likes to grow on one of my ship ornament. since then i've taken it out twice to clean. the first time was a lot of scrubbing and soaking in both hot and cold water, then in a bath of medication for a day or two. put ornament back in the tank, and 2 days later, i can see the wispy bubbly white film growing over it. took it out again, this time placed in a diluted bleach solution. did not want to do this at first because of the amount of rinsing it would take, but i was getting frustrated. after a 2 day soak and a really really good rinse, placed ornament back in water. 2 days later, i can see signs of the fungus again! now it gets me thinking, am i still dealing with fungus or a form of algae? and how can i get the tank back to normal? i really want to start adding more black phantom tetras and a bristlenose pleco but dont want them to be infected or anything.
