Im thinking of setting up a largish kiddy pool in the basement soon. Instead of putting my goldfish in my 66, I might let the jack dempsey and other fish stay in there and put the goldfish into a pool, like they used to be. I'll do it right this time, I'll put it in the basement by the sump hole so I can just dip out buckets of water and pour them in, and there is a sink a few feet from there. Now my question....... what are some coldwater catfish that grow to about 1' that are compatible with goldfish? Actually what are any other cold water fish that are compatible with goldfish, I know white clouds are, weather loaches, etc....

I would have put this in DIY, but its not really about making the pond or anything, I would have put it in ponds or coldwater but they dont seem to get much traffic....

Most of the cory family of catfish only get to be around 1.5 to 2 inches in size and tend to like the water a bit more on the cooler side. And they get along with just about anything out there that isn't going to eat them.

Sorry. You actually meant 1 foot in size? and I thought you meant 1 inch in size. I get confused with non-metric.

Well, a bullhead catfish will get to be about a foot... not many lfs carry north american natives, though, so that might be a little hard...

A channel cat would grow a little fast, but if you bought a smallish one, it would be able to stay a year anyhow. Once it gets big enough, like any catfish, it will make a meal of your goldies.

One of our local theme parks uses JD's as a pond fish...

Maybe someone else knows of some larger coldwater species that aren't NA natives... I'm just throwing out a few ideas in the meantime....
