hey, all. my betta's an odd spot on him that I can't seem to get rid of. it is on his back, just in front of his dorsal fin. it's too big to be ich, too small to be a fish louse, and not in the right spot to be HITH disease, plus it's been there for a while. and he doesn't seem show any signs of ill, he's eating fine, fins not clamped, swims normally and is never lethargic. it looks sort of like he lost a scale, but I though i'd run it by you guys just to be safe.

is it fungus? fungus can form a little white patch wherever the fish has been hurt.

if its fungus you probably want to raise the temp up to 83-84 degrees (i think i read that 83.5 degrees is the line where fungus dies.) you would also want to slowly add some freshwater aquarium salt. if sure theres websites that can give you more info than i can.

nope. I know it's not fungus, because it's flat on him, and it doesn't look like any fungus i've ever seen. i've already added salt to the tank, which has been in there for 2 weeks. any fungus would be dead by now, and it's not gone. i'll check and make sure it doesn't start developing it.

I too have a betta that has weird spots on him. Not ich, fungus, or anything else I can find. He doesnt seem bothered by it, so I have no idea. He has had his spots for at least 7 months.

My old Beta had a spot on him. It was falt just as you described. I did a little research on it to find it was a toomer. He died 2 days after.

he's had that spot for 2 weeks. if it was gonna kill him, I think it would have done so by now.

Yes but my Beta had it for a month or so before he died.

don't tumors protrude?

lol my Beta's tumor was like 5 years ago when my dad and I were taking care of the tank. I don't remember much. Alls I remember was I was a sad 8 year old when he was dead in the tank.
