Ya 3 guppies 2 or 3 cories and some ghost srimp would be fine. I would get an air pump. There not that expensive.

3 guppies, some cories, and some ghost shrimp would be good.

cories like to be kept in groups of 6 or more, so i think maybe some dwarf cories might be the best but i have no experience with cories so could someone say if cories like to be in groups of three? i think three or four is the most that would fit nicely into a ten gallon, but 6 might do fine.

for the air pump, i think it will be fine without it, but its hard to be sure. a biowheel filter runs the water through a lot of air so it should be ok.

EDIT: the guy above me wrote while i was writing so i didnt see his post. but i would disagree and say that an air pump is not necessary. he seems to think that cories do fine in groups of 3, which is likely, but i think only two is not enough.

I agree with the above with only a few notes..

Don't get male and female guppies or you will end up with an overstocked tank as guppies love to breed. If you are looking for color get a few males.

Most cories like to be in small groups of at least 5 or more. Try to get at least 4 of the same type of cories. Also try getting the small type such as Pandas.

You shouldn't really need an air pump for the tank. The main reason for them to to create surface movement to allow for gas exchange to add oxygen. The biowheel should create enough surface movement to hold enough oxygen in the tank. If you want an air pump simply for looks that would be fine. It will not hurt the tank any as long as there is no live plants in the tank. If you have live plants in the tank then I opt for not using an air pump unless your fish are starving for oxygen and this will be seen as the cories will bolt to the top alot and the guppies also staying right at the top.

I agree with everyone else, but to me it sounds like you have something else in there, do you or is it empty.

All sounds well to me - but seems like a bit of the schooling fish police are in force on this thread :)

I don't agree with the assertion that certain fish "like" to be in particular numbers. I have kept almost all schoaling fish at one time or another, some in larger groups, some in pairs, and some have ended up solitary....and none of them showed any signs of being happier or unhappier depending upon numbers.

Personally I think it's a complete myth. If you ask me, it's perfectly okay to keep corys in pairs and even singley...though they do appreciate at least being in a pair.

I wouldn't put anything in there with the Flowerhorn they tend to get quite aggressive and not like other fish at all.

hey bleach_freak -- I have 3 male guppies in my 10 gallon. I just finished cycling. I will wait 1 more week then slowly add some corries.

I will get the smaller corries - either panda or gosh I forgot the other one - is it just dwarf cory?

That is all I was going to have in my 10 gallon.

Take care!

I don't know much about cories. I think it would be better with the air pump but not nesassary.

Heh, I think everytime we see a questionable post this is the first thing we are going to think.

bleach_freak, your 55 is a quite a bit over-stocked. How did you end-up with 20 goldfish in your 55?

He's really good at carnival games. Or maybe he's a carny who runs one of those "hit a balloon with a dart and win a goldfish" booths.

I tend to disagree with that. I'm pretty sure he ment the flower horn ate them, becuase he isn't inteligent enough to know that goldfish make very poor feeders are lacking in nutritional value(wich could/will lead to hole in the head/lateral line erosion). Bleach_Freak, do you think you can start feeding your flower horn high quality cichlid pellets and table shrimp (as a treat)? Becuase this would make a much better diet. If you absolutely have to see your fish eat/kill another fish (it's called bloodlust, and is considered wrong by many people), get 3 male and 6 female guppys and nothing else for your 10g so you can breed them and make your own feeder guppys (guppys and other tropical fish are a better feeder fish for cichlids) that won't run the risk of introducing disease like feeder golds and feeder guppys you would by from the fish/pet store.

flowerhorns don't eat fish too much in the wild. better live food choices would be things like ghost shrimp and earthworms, and commercial cichlid food.

Anyone notice this guy is typing in his sig and changing it around?

His flowerhorn ate 15 goldfish in one day?

ROFLMAO!!!!!! Fishcatch, if you ever documented a wild flowerhorn, you would be a billionair and my superhero!!

Graph, depending on the size of both the feeders and the FH, it is entirely possible. Im not saying it is right or healthy or good for the fish or anything, just that its possible. My brother had a 5-star that would eat at least 10 goldies in a feeding. Sometimes it would open its mouth to get one, and 2 would swim out. :D
