Are any of you watching Rockstar:Supernova? I am and I LOVE Dilana. I want her to win for sure. My BF is going for Lukas.

Dilana is definitely a dynamic performer. and she has the crowd eating out of her hand--but I must admit I find her a little scary! I wonder if that old "boys club" is modern enough to let her front the band.
Lukas is an interesting, over-the-top theatrical type of rocker (and fellow Canadian), but I don't think he has the greatest voice, and one band member has let on that he needs to improve it. Plus he's not handsome enough for my taste--I dig the makeup but oh that forehead!! (sorry shallow I know, but I likes me rockers cute!)
I'd like to see Dana drink a lot more beer before going onstage and really rock out.
All in all, I have no idea who's going to win this thing. For me, last year's INXS show seemed easier to bet on...

I like Dana too, but I think she is too fru-fru for that band. She would be a great country singer. I will agree on Lukas being ugly. I will go ahead and call him that bc it's my opinion  I think it may be the forehead lol. Dilana has the rockers eating out of her hand as well. I think she has this thing in the bag unless she screws up or someone else really starts to shine. I hope they send uhhh....I forgot his name, anyway he sang wallflowers last night I think, anyway, I hope he goes home. I haven't liked him from the start.

Doesn't anyone like the Australian dude? He's the one I am rooting for. I would have to say, I Hate Lucas.

That bobble-head guy has to go too, and so does "Storm Large"--is that her real name or is that her PORN name???
I fear that Supernova is too macho to let a girl front the band. She's a shoe-in though.
I guess we'll have to see how the performers evolve. Half the fun of this show for me is watching how some performers really come out of their shell by the end and blow me away with their professionalism and creativity. So far, noone except Dilana has REALLY let loose...

I thought last night was the best set of performances, except for "bobble head" he is the one I was referring to wanting to go home tonight. I thought it was kinda funny how rocker #1 dissed on Jill for "grinding" on him during her performance. She spent the whole time on stage doing it. It was very slutty.
The aussie is OK, but not great. I don't think he's gonna cut it.

You know, for the first few episodes, I thought the australian guy was the one to beat. But he's becoming a little bland now, not really standing out the way he did at the beginning. Nice tho.

Personally, I think it's pretty sad that a 'big star' :thud: like Tommy Lee has to go on tv to find a singer for his new group.

LOL I thought "That's a porn name for sure" too!!! She couldn't even grind very well!!
From the first I've thought Dilana absolutely rocked--and I hope the guys have balls enough to front with a woman!! For some reason all the dudes, to me, are wimpy and just don't have a handsome, charismatic "look" or attitude a frontman should. Just my opinion. That IS secondary to their real lack of voice and puttin' it to the edge.
As far as Tommy Lee doing the program to find a frontman, it's just publicity--remember he did that stupid college show? This has guaranteed that a vast majority of people who watch telly will at least know what/who SuperNova is.

I am sooooooo stoked that they axed the "bobble head" last night. I was worried they were gonna get rid of the strange alien girl Zayara(or whatever her name is) but they did the right thing. That guy just plain stunk. I don't think alien girl is the right choice for THEIR band, but I do think she has a great voice and will do well on her own. Shoot, I would buy her record. I would like to hear her sing a cranberries song. I too hope they don't wuss out on picking a girl and choose Dilana as their front person. She is the only one that fits the bill if you ask me.

Yep, I sure saw that coming. The next to go should be slutty Jill--she has no talent whatsover. In fact, I'm shocked she wasn't even in the bottom 3 last night. Oh well, I guess humping the guitar play was a good move for her...
DaisyTattoo

I thought she should be in the bottom as well. I was surprised that Zayara was. She did a good job I thought. Oh, well....Jill's time is coming. I suspect that Zayara will be going next though, no matter how good she sounds. They will never pick her and they already know it. Unless they bring something awesome to the table, this is my next weeks pick for bottom 3

I totally agree with you .
I watch the show on occasion, but I don't really like it. Most of those singers try so incredibly hard to be original, that they all fall into the same "totally trying to be original" category that contradicts what they're trying to portray themselves to be.
It's all for show. most of those people wanna become rockstars, rather than wanting to create and play great music, for their love and appreciation for music. . . .

Bonjour Cheech
I agree that it's all for show. I would never buy Supernova's album, but I enjoy the television spectacle for it's pure entertainment value.
I also agree that it's sad (first sad, then funny, then just fun) that the band has to go on TV to find a singer, but these guys are kind of old has-been rockers, who are trying to re-establish themselves in the public eye again. Everybody on the show is a little desperate!
DaisyTattoo
08-01-2006, 9:58 AM
I agree with what ya'll are saying about them being desperate, but I also think it's smart to go on TV like that to find your lead bc it lets you know what the audience wants. Since the audience gets to vote, there is no question who they prefer and who they would want to listen to, also they get to know the face and will be more likely to buy the record then having to wait until a song gets played over the radio and hoping people like it. Kinda gives them a bit of security in their choice.
Ms.Bubbles
08-01-2006, 12:30 PM
That's true, it does give them a degree of security (that some people, ie. the ones who agree with the final choice of lead singer, will buy the album and follow the band). I'm thinking that perhaps what cheech is referring to is a kind of lack of musical integrity of the band--they are opting for media popularity rather than following their own creative voice.
In any case, I'll be tuning in as long as the performances remain interesting.

exactly...
I understand that like everything else, it is a business, but I still feel like it;s a way of "selling out"..

Ok, so now who do ya'll think is going to win now that we are down to 4? I am sticking with Dilana, although I am not as confident as before. I think if they don't pick her, they are going with Toby. That's my guess. I am loving this show. They have been singing some awsome songs.

I can't say I closely followed the entire show. I merely watched scattered episodes and mostly scratched my head. Aren't the over the top "rock star" poses done and over with already? All the Scott Stapp like jesus poses turned me off of 75% of the contestants. It just seems so cheesy. "I'm going to totally rock your face off...now watch me sashay my way across stage while I give the heavy lidded seductive eyes to the cameras". Pfft. I watched tonights finale out of sheer boredom and after hearing the final 3 perform I have to say that I think they made a massive mistake. The winner's voice sounds like a coked up version of the singer from Our Lady Peace - not good! The best performance/performer of the night in my opinion was Toby.
What I don't understand is that they're going to run another competition next summer? What is that all about? Usually when you find the supposed right blend of musicians for a band, don't you normally attempt to make that grouping work? Scheduling a second year fill in solidifies the paper thinness of this band - and further kills any chance this band ever had of becoming big on the account of actual talent and music. American Idol has completely killed the whole premise of good music and bands. Shows like this need to be stopped, how many more pre fab pop stars can our already saturated airwaves take?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Not Lukas!! What a poser-wanna-be!! At least Toby has grown and evolved into a decent musician, albeit falling into the aforementioned formulaic trend all of the "contestants" followed. I'd become convinced that as pseudo-serious musicians (referring to Cheech's above comments) that Magni and Toby were the "best," but Lukas played right up to the "image" they wanted or needed to revive their sorry a****. Would the Stones have done this? The Who? Cream? Nirvana? Simon and Garfunkel? (sorry, had to add some comedic relief).
I guess the best to say is, it was certainly entertaining. In a neo-post-modern-retro-variety show sort of way. Just let Gilby get back to the studio where he makes great music, and Tommy Lee, get a life. Or contemplate your navel. Sheesh.

I was pretty Dissapointed, I already have tickets for the Feb Show in columbus, and was counting on Dilana being part of Supernova. At least she'll be on tour. It's almost hilarious, when the show first Aired, I tolld my wife it would come down to Lukas and Dilana, and supernova would probably pick Lukas because he was a guy.
I will say that there was much more talent this time around than in the first season. The final six or maybe seven all could have headed the band and done well. Lukas would not have been my choice though.
